The day after of the Glassman South America event in Brazil, a professional development course on the use of fused cast AZS refractories (“Cohecimento Tècnico Especializado em Refratàrios AZS Eletrofundidos”) for the various types of glass and furnaces was held at the University of São Paulo at the renowned technical research institute “Instituto de Pesquisas Tecnòlogicas do Estado de Sao Paulo S.A. – IPT”, in collaboration with the “Associação Brasileira de Ceràmica” and the “Comissão de Vidros da ABCERAM”.

Participants came from all areas of the Brazilian industry related to glassmaking, including engineering and research, as well as lecturers and students specialising in the field.

The course was structured as an interactive event. On the one hand, participants were given an overview of fused cast materials in the world of refractories in general, followed by a complete introduction to the production and specific applications of fused cast AZS, as well as fundamental quality topics of fused cast AZS by the head of R&D of REFEL, Roland Heidrich, and the company’s agent in Brazil, Fábio dos Santos Bernardo. On the other, participants could ask specific questions and raise problems for discussion. The feedback received during and after the training was very positive so that further editions will follow in the future.

This year REFEL took part in Glassman South America for the first time with its own booth.

Despite the difficult economic and political situation in South America, which is not encouraging large long term investments, the area has a lot of potential, and many visitors came to the booth. This gave the General Managers, as well as their colleagues from Sales and R&D, the opportunity to develop new contacts and illustrate the high quality of REFEL’s products and range of services to a very interested and qualified audience.

Given the good feedback, REFEL is already working on next year’s edition, Glassman Latin America 2020, that will take place in Monterrey, Mexico, 13-14 May, 2020.

On 23 November 2018, the annual ATIV event was held in Parma at the Santa Elisabetta Congress Centre.

The XXXIII Conference with the title “The Italian Glass Day” focused on the “Technological development in flat and hollow glass furnaces” and dealt with the main topics concerning glass furnaces, i.e. the use of refractories for the various types of glass and for the various types of furnace, the designing of furnaces intended also as control, sustainability, consumption, energy saving in furnace operation, filtration systems and treatment solutions, and pertaining regulations.

The day before the conference, a professional development course on the use of fused cast refractories for the various types of glass and furnaces was held. Participants came from all areas of the industry related to glassmaking, engineering and research.

For the first time as an independent company, REFEL took part in glasstec with its own stand and a substantial team: both the General Managers were there, together with the colleagues from Sales and R&D, and the support from the team in San Vito.

Held every other year, glasstec is the leading glass fair that brings together more than 1,200 exhibitors from 52 countries with over 40,000 trade visitors from more than 100 countries. It provides an unparalleled overview of the industry, from manufacturing to process innovations to new products and their applications.

A lot of visitors came to the stand, old costumers as well as new ones, and there was plenty of interest from other exhibitors and trade fair visitors in general.

General Manager M. Maion said: “It is always a pleasure to meet existing and new potential customers. Our efforts have been prized: we came back with visibly increased interest in our high quality refractories”.

Also General Manager E. Wolff was glad about REFEL’s presence:“We came back as a ‘new’ player to this important event, our team worked hard to prepare the show and everything around it, but the effort was worth the result”.

Before long, REFEL will be preparing for glassman South America (14-15 May 2019, Sao Paulo Expo, Brazil).

REFEL S.p.A. is supporting its sales representatives and costumers in Thailand through a dedicated development programme. Around 70 engineers from the glass industry attended the seminar, held in Ayudthya, Rojana, and Saraburi.
The attendees were given fundamental information and specialised technical knowledge on fused cast AZS applications by the head of R&D of REFEL, Roland Heidrich.
“It has been a pleasure to hold this seminar. The engineers were eager to hear from the best quality player on the market and about state-of-the-art AZS applications” he said.
